user groups and permissions:

anonymous users: or guest, people without sign up
authenticated users: users who sign up and confirmed the email account
admin users: certain users have much more privileges, not fair :--)
paid users: authenticated users paid membership fee (either yearly or once for life)

we can setup any kind of additional user group, for example, a writer group who is responsible for write news/announcements.  Or a forum admin group who's in charge for forum, etc. The reason for different user group is to fine tune the control of permission on different contents. I'll spare you for the gory details for now. You are good to go as long as you are aware that the permission for easy user group to access different contents can be adjusted.

a few words about membership/paid, I set it up to use Paypal to collect fee. Which is a very convenient and secure way. Currently I pointed it to my sandbox (development) account in Paypal and I tested the sending fee over, it looks good. It can be also used to accept donation and paid advertisement.

content types:
blog
forum
photo album
page
story

you may wonder what's the difference between a page and story. A page is normally a page :-) related to site like about-us, history, committee, etc. Usually it won't allow users to comment. On the other hand, a story is a story (sorry) like news, announcements users can comment (of course you can disallow it too). Currently I enabled all 5  types for authenticated users so you can easily test them, but we can easily turn off some types for regular users, like only allow admin users to create page and story. Another type is web form, which can used to collect user input like online survey, I set it to admin only for now.

There are many more features like online feedback, private messages, polls, comments, etc. But I know you all are busy and it's pretty straight forward most of the times. I put some contents there as place holders like Privacy Statement, T&C, and all the page on About Us (Organization) which I copied from current capa-ht.org. Please do not delete them (unless you're sure ) since they are link to the menus, instead you can change the content and appearance, you'll notice a MS Officer like inline editor to make you editing easier.

Lanjing mentioned before that this site is independent to current capa-ht.org. I just want to point out with some copy&paste, all the content on capa-ht.org can be merged to the new site. Of course it's up to you to decide if you want to do that or not.

just one more thing and I promise I'll stop. Lanjing sent me a list last week. I finish all of them. only I did not set those personal information/professional information/address field as mandatory at sign up, want to not discourage/intimating people at the time they sign up. They can add/update those info later after they sign up. Again, if you really feel certain fields are mandatory at the sign up stage, that can be easily done. I'll try not pat on my back :-)  but you'll find it's a really powerful yet flexible system.

good Good study, day Day up.
