Chinese American Pathologists Association (CAPA) is the voice of the Chinese American pathologists practicing in US and Canada, pathologists in training as well as investigators in biomedical research. The organization was originally founded as Hua Tuo Society of Pathology (HTSP, 华佗病理学会) in March, 2003, in Washington, D.C., and the name was changed to the current one in February, 2006, in Atlanta. CAPA has over 300 members, including many nationally and internationally known pathologists. in North America and other parts of the world. Since it was founded, CAPA has strived to accomplish its mission, ie, to improve educational opportunities and professional skills of practicing pathologists of Chinese ethnicity, to promote communication, friendship and cultural exchange, and to advance the science and practice of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Benefits of becoming a CAPA member:

CAPA's 300-strong members form an extensive network in all sectors of pathology practice in North America and other parts of the world, including academic, private and industrial institutions.  A membership will put you right in contact with many other members in CAPA.

CAPA holds its annual meetings in conjunction with USCAP meetings and discusses diverse range of issues and topics important to its members. It has employed different formats and covered many topics, including scientific and research collaborations and career and employment choices.

Pathologists-in-training are encouraged to become members. CAPA holds its annual "Resident Best Abstract Award" with cash award. Many CAPA members are involved in fellowship programs. Resident subcommittee is actively engaged in mentoring new residents.

All subcommittees are open to all CAPA members to encourage their active engagement in CAPA activities.

How to get involved in CAPA:

CAPA is a noforprofit organization and run by volunteers. Please fill the application forms to volunteer for the subcommittee activities. If you wish spend more time and effort, you can volunteer for the open election for executive committee (EC) member or president-elect. The minimum qualification for EC and president elect: demonstrating years of interests in CAPA and willing to serve the public benefits of CAPA. Leadship and organization ability is highly desirable for president-elect.

Membership dues:

CAPA relies in large part on its members' generous support for all its activities. The majority of the membership dues go to annual meeting. All CAPA positions are held by volunteers. Please attend the annual meeting to see the detail financial report. The categories of membership include:

  • Regular membership: US$50/year
  • Associate membership for pathologists-inraining: Free
  • Affiliate membership for biomedical researchers: US$50/year
  • Lifetime membership:  US $500
